Sindh Culture Department To Organize Children's Literature Festival 2019 At Hyderabad

Sindh Culture Department has announced to organize two-day Children's Literature Festival (CLF) on 15-16 February at Sindh Museum, Hyderabad. A programme titled "Diya Diya Laat Asan" would be especially arranged for children of different public and private schools to participate in it. Conference of children literature writers and editors would be held, while open stage for children titled "Jal Jal Mishall Jal" would also be available. Furthermore art work of students from class Six to Matric would also be exhibited during the two-day festival. In this regard Secretary Culture Sindh, Mr. Akbar Laghari told WiseSindh : "We celebrate it to bring children in the mainstream,  they are the nurseries, if they are writers, singers, painters etc, they will get chance to present it at higher forum. It will not provide entertainment to children but it will increase their confidence too. We may have some of them as best artists of future."

Sindh Govt Approves Fund For Lifting Encroachment Debris

Sindh government on Wednesday approved fund for lifting debris of the illegal structures demolished as a result of the citywide anti-encroachment campaign, as reported in media. According to details, the provincial chief minister has approved the summary of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) for Rs200 million funds. The summary read that repairing of footpaths would also be carried out along with lifting debris of the encroachment. The local government department will supervise the work on lifting the debris by the KMC. Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar last month said the KMC was facing shortage of funds, hence “it will take time to remove debris piling up after anti-encroachment drive in different areas”. Speaking to media here, Akhtar said the KMC was razing all illegal encroachments on order of the Supreme Court. Sindhi short story writer and Dramatist Prof: Ayoob Umrani has been critically injured in a road mishap on Sehwan Road here on Friday, as he was returning to his home from Sehwan after college. Chinese scientists announced Thursday they had cloned five monkeys from a single animal that was genetically engineered to have a sleep disorder, saying it could aid research into human psychological problems. The claim, detailed in two reports published in a Chinese science journal, is the latest in a series of biomedical advances in the country, some of which have fuelled medical ethics debates. Most recently a Chinese scientist claimed last year he had altered the DNA of babies to make them HIV-proof. A research team from the Institute of Neuroscience at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shanghai said it had altered the genes of a macaque to give it circadian rhythm disorder, in which the body’s “clock” is out of sync with normal sleep times. Sindh government presented a bill in the Assembly on Thursday which will make it possible for the injured to get treatment on priority basis and fulfill medico-legal requirements later on. The proposed bill has been named after a girl-child Amal Umer, who passed away after being hit by a bullet shot by a police officer during an encounter last year. In the bill, it has been recommended that all private and government hospitals should treat the wounded first and then complete the paperwork. The bill stated that no hospital, either private or government, would refuse the treatment of injured and will provide treatment on emergency basis. Every hospital should have two ambulances incorporating all latest first aid material and must have paramedical staff. Traffic movement along one section at a busy University Road was disrupted after water pipeline burst near Central Jail flyover on Thursday morning. In addition, the pipeline failure has also led to forming a pothole on the road, making it difficult for the vehicles to pass through easily. The Karachi traffic police have advised motorists to exercise caution while driving on the specified road due to skidding wet surface due to pipeline burst. In August last year, supply to majority of the areas were affected after a pipeline at the Dhabeji pumping station burst. Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday ordered the Sindh government to enact new police rules within six weeks, as reported in media. The SHC was hearing contempt proceedings against former chief secretary of the province, Rizwan Memon, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, inspector general Sindh police and other relevant officers. The petition was filed by Karamat Ali. China's Cyber Watchdog Deletes 7 Million Pieces of Online Information

China’s cyber watchdog said on Wednesday it had deleted more than 7 million pieces of online information as well as 9,382 mobile apps, and it criticized tech giant Tencent’s news app for spreading “vulgar information”. The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) said in a statement on its website the action was part of a clean-up of unacceptable and harmful information that started this month, adding that it had also shut down 733 websites. The administration singled out Tencent’s Tiantian Kuaibao news app, saying the platform had been ordered to make changes as it had been spreading “vulgar and low-brow information that was harmful and damaging to the internet ecosystem”. Tencent did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The regulator also criticized Huaban, a photo-sharing social network, as having “serious ecosystem problems”. Paramilitary Rangers in a raid in Lyari captured illegal arms and ammunition from a main-hole, as reported on Wednesday. A spokesman of Rangers in a statement said the paramilitary agency conducted raid in Dubai Chowk area of Lyari and recovered a bag of arms and ammunition from a main-hole. The weapons were kept in the main-hole by the miscreants of Zahid Ladla gang, the spokesman stated. The rangers found five hand grenades, four detonators, 1220 rounds of M4 rifle and 130 rounds of 8mm rifle, the spokesman further said. Rangers and police had launched an operation in Karachi on September 5, 2013 following the directives of the then government in the wake of the rising incidents of terrorism, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and targeted killings. NEPRA To Increase Electricity Price Soon

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday approved an increase of Rs0.57 per unit in electricity prices. The increase was approved on account of the fuel adjustment charges for December 2018, said the officials. According to the reports the surge in power price will put a burden of Rs4.2bn on consumers. NEPRA officials said that Rs5.10bn could be saved, if the power plant had been run on the Liquefied natural gas (LNG). While Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) officials said that plants could not be run as Liquefied natural gas was not available to the plants. Earlier,  the NEPRA, on November 14, had approved an increase of Rs. 0.41 per unit in the electricity tariff. The decision was taken by NEPRA in a public hearing on the petition filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) and will have a cumulative burden of around Rs 3.8 billion on the consumers. An anti-harassment cell established in the University of Sindh to assure female students of protection against harassment, has been closed by the university administration. Female students of Mehran University, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences and University of Sindh expressed concerns over the closure of the anti-harassment cell. The anti-harassment cell was established after the suicide of Naila Rind, a Sindh University student who had allegedly committed suicide following exploitation and blackmailing. Rind’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room in SU’s Marvi Hostel in Jamshoro on January 1, 2017. She was a final-year student of the Sindhi department.

The Supreme Court Karachi Registry on Tuesday ordered that the city be restored to how it was 40 years ago and directed authorities to demolish unlawful constructions. A two-judge bench comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sajid Ali Shah heard the case regarding illegal construction of wedding halls, shopping malls and plazas in residential areas. During the hearing, the top court’s Karachi Registry ordered, “In Karachi, no house will be demolished to be used for commercial purposes.” Barring the use of residential houses for commercial purpose, the bencj said, "Wedding halls, shopping malls and plazas will not be constructed on residential plots." Attitude of Courts Towards Missing Persons Has Remained Non-Serious: Jalal Shah

Sindh United Party (SUP) chief Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah here on Saturday has condemned the forceful abduction of SUP activist Manzoor Memon from Mirpurkhas and claimed that the attitude of courts towards missing persons issue was non-serious and he hoped that the new Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khoso would take this issue seriously according to the constitution. In a press statement Mr. Shah claimed that the leaders and activists of SUP were law abiding citizens and they were never involved in any criminal activity. "From so many years political activists are missing and they are not being presented before the courts, which is an illegal act and violation of human rights. Chaos and harassment in Sindh province is being created by forcefully abducting political activists, writers and journalists. We demand that all the missing political activists, writers and journalists including Manzoor Memon should immediately be released," Jalal Shah added.

The murder/suicide case of LUMHS, Jamshoro student Atif Arain has taken a new turn as police have arrested his roommate Rafay, here on Saturday. On the other hand the team of doctors of Civil Hospital has prepared the final postmortem report of Atif, according which the dead body was 12-14 hours old. Scientists have unveiled what they say is an ideal diet for the health of the planet and its populations – including a doubling of consumption of nuts, fruits, vegetables and legumes, and a halving of meat and sugar intake. If the world followed the “Planetary Health” diet, the researchers said, more than 11 million premature deaths could be prevented each year, while greenhouse gas emissions would be cut and more land, water and biodiversity would be preserved. New Tourism Record: 65 Million Tourist Visited New York In 2018

A record-breaking 65.2 million tourists visited New York in 2018, its tourist board said, with British people particularly keen to visit the Big Apple from overseas. According to new figures from NYC & Company, around 51.6 million Americans and 13.5 million foreign tourists visited the city last year —compared to 13.1 overseas visitors in 2017. Britons topped the list of overseas visitors, with 1.24 million, followed by China (1.1 million), Canada (1 million), Brazil (920,000) and France (807,000). New York ranked the 6th most-visited city in the world for foreign tourists, according to Mastercard´s annual Global Destination Cities list published in September, based on a projected 13.1 million visitors. Bangkok topped that list, ahead of London, Paris, Dubai and Singapore. The US´s financial capital, where tourism employs over 390,000 people, hopes to break records again in 2019 with a predicted 67 million visitors.
