Sindhi Cricketer Forced To Do Labor After Being Ignored By Selectors

Sindhi cricketer Habibullah Shaikh was forced to do labor due to financial crisis after he was unable to find place in the Pakistan’s national cricket team. From 1947 till today not a single  Sindhi player has played for Pakistan at international level, while only one Sindhi speaking player Shahid Qambrani of Hyderabad region was able to play one match against West Indies in Pakistan-A team.

Habibullah Shaikh represented Larkana division and scored centuries for his team in Quaid-i-Azam Trophy, which is considered to be the highest domestic platform for cricketers and they are selected in the national team on the basis of their performances in Quaid-i-Azam trophy.

Habib was of the opinion that despite of his good performance in domestic level he was continuously ignored and was unable to get chance to represent the country on highest level.

In an interview to sports journalist Mujahid Solangi he told he was the first player to score a century for Larkana division, and gave good performances throughout the tournament but he was still ignored by the national selectors and nowadays he was doing labor at his native town due to financial crisis.

This is not a new thing, right from the beginning Sindhi cricketers have been ignored and have never been selected to the national team, the majority of players in national team as well as selectors hail from Punjab province while few players hailing from KPK province have got chance to play for Pakistan’s national team at international level.

Pakistan’s express fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar once in a TV interview expressed his concerns on this issue and mentioned that there was a strong lobby of players coming from Punjab province in the dressing room who had dominating opinions.

Former Pakistani captain and wicket keeper Rashid Latif shared the same concerns and claimed that players coming from Punjab province had reservations with players coming from other parts of the country, especially Sindh. However some Urdu speaking players hailing from Karachi, capital of Sindh made their way to highest level but they were never welcomed by the lobbyists in the dressing room.
