The Namesake: A Novel About Seeking Identity

  From last two decades the world has seen some great writers from the Indian sub-continent, names like Arunditi Roy, Anita Desai, Khushwant Singh, Kamila Shamsie, Mohammad Hanif and many more have given new voice to problems of sub-continent in literary circles. Now it is commonly believed that Indian sub-continent is contributing hugely in English literature. One bright name in English literature is of Jhumpa Lahiri. Lahiri is a Bengali by origin and was born in 1967, she lives in America, and she got Pulitzer’s Prize for fiction on her debut book “Interpreter of Maladies” (a collection of short stories).   In year 2003, her first novel “The Namesake” came out, this novel is published by Houghton Muffin and is spread over approximately 300 pages. Famous Sindhi Short Story writer and Dramatist Shoukat Hussain Shoro Passes Away At 74

                (File Photo) Famous Sindhi short story writer and dramatist Shoukat Hussain Shoro passed away this evening at a private hospital of Karachi, at the age of 74. After an antibiotic injection he suffered from a reaction and the level of methemoglobinemia increased in his blood. According to family sources Mr. Shoro was admitted to a private hospital at Karachi, some ten days ago. He was given a dosage of an antibiotic, which caused reaction that effected his oxygen saturation. Close friends of Mr. Shoro including famous short story writer Madad Ali Sindhi, famous journalist and writer Niaz Panhwar and others condoled with the Shoro family, paid homage to Mr. Shoro on social media and termed that sudden demise as great loss of Sindhi short story. Mr. Shoro was well-known for his short stories and criticism, he penned down several books including Rat Jo Rung, that was translated into English “Colour of Night”. He also wrote many dramas for Pakistan Television (PTV).
