Famous Sindhi Writer Noor-ul-Huda Shah Celebrates Birthday

Famous Sindhi playwright and short story writer Noor-ul-Huda Shah celebrated her birthday today. Sindhi writers and intellectuals paid her rich tributes on social media. Ms. Shah is well-known for her feminism, which could be seen from her writings. She has written dramas and plays for Pakistan Tele Vision (PTV), Hum TV and other channels. Her famous dramas include:

Jungle
Asmaan Tak Deewar
Tapish
Marvi
Ab Mera Intazaar Kar
Zara Si Aurat
Ajnabi Raaste, and others.

While she has penned down four collections of short stories including:
(1) Jala Watan
(2) Karballa
(3) Rann Ain Runjh Jo Ethihas, and
(4) Kedaro

 Ms. Shah was criticized by moralists for being bold and blunt in her writings. In 1980s and 90s it was hard for conservative Sindhi society to digest her stories.

Commenting on her stories in 2001, Noor-ul-Huda wrote that:

"In every writer's heart a wish arises that if he/she could reject his/her published writings, delete them from the scene, and keep on rejecting them again and again. And could rewrite them in a new manner. But it's a pity that is not possible, once words are published, they slip away from hands of the writer like air and water. So the published words should be considered as the rejected fortune of the writer."

Famous broadcaster and writer Naseer Mirza writes for Ms. Shah that: 

"During 80's Noor-ul-Huda Shah announced her presence in continuity of Manik and Khair-un-Nisa Jaffery, and very soon she became a popular writer in entire Sindh for her unique narration style and boldness. In 1980's her first collection of short stories "Jala Watan" was published, while her short story 'Kedaro' written on ethnic violence in Hyderabad could be included in modern classics of Sindhi." 

Ms. Shah describes herself as: "when I seriously started to write short stories in Sindhi, for me that was period full of wondering, even Sindhi society was a revelation of wondering for me at that time."

                          Feminism In Noor's Writings:

Ms. Noor's writings clear disclose her feminist ideology, many of her stories could be cited in this regard, such as Parotho Gohst, Sharifzadi, Dewaroon and many others. Once someone blamed her for nudity in her writings, she replied: 

"If me uttering the word 'woman' is nudity then I cannot help it."

                             Existentialism In Noor's Writings:

Dr. Waheed Jatoi writes about Ms. Shah that: "though Noor-ul-Huda Shah is a commercial writer as most of her time is given to dramatic art, but as a fiction writer she has remained well aware of literary movements and narratives in the world, that is the reason she introduced existentialism in her writings and her short stories collection 'Rann Ain Runjh Jo Ethihas' reflects this movement. It seems that she has gone through mental torture before writing these stories."
