From Quite Some Time Sale of Sindhi Novels Has Increased: Mohan Madhosh

From quite some time sale of Sindhi novels had increased, claimed the owner of Kavita Publication, Hyderabad, Mohan Madhosh, while books of poetry were on last number in the list. However, people opted for novels and history books, after that memoirs and autobiographies were also in demand.

On every Saturday I and Akhtar get a chance to visit Kavita Bookstore at Gari Khatta, Hyderabad and try to spend some time with its owner Mohan Madhosh, who also happens to be our publisher and his publication has recently published my novel "Rai Diyach" and Akhtar's short story collection "Teeh Minute".

 Most of the times we talk about different issues regarding Sindhi literature and its publishing, but today I decided to try something new and asked Mohan a simple question what kind of books were sold mostly nowadays?

Mohan without taking any time replied: "From quite some time Sindhi novels are on top of the sale list, novels like Khumach of Akbar Soomro, Rai Diyach, Mari Jee Dithosen, and others are in demand, while after that books on history are in demand, then come memoirs and autobiographies, while  books of poetry have dropped to last number in sale list."

Mohan further said that: "Recently I installed a stall in Lahooti Mela held at Sindh University last week and I was glad that all the copies of novel "Rai Diyach" were sold out during two days, while good number of copies of "Teeh Minute" were also sold, however, people also bought Akbar Soomro's novel "Khumach" as well and all of its copies were sold out."

He also added that he was glad to find out that during Lahooti Mela majority of his customers were youngsters, who were showing keen interest in literature and bought books.

Through a well-informed source we came to know that two of Sindh's widely read writers including Amar Jaleel and Noor-ul-Huda Shah had claimed that Sindhi youth was going away from books and no one was bothering to read literature.

While this well informed source also claimed that Noor-ul-Huda Shah during the Adab Mela held at Governor House in Karachi had claimed that Sindhi nation was in complexes and had forgotten its real heroes. This was shocking for us as Mohan, who being a publisher knew the ground realities was telling us exactly the opposite.
