Literature Produced During Pandemics Has Great Importance: Hafeez Kumbhar

Famous Sindhi short story writer and dramatist Hafeez Kumbhar has said that every word written during pandemic has importance and it would be recorded in history, be it fiction or non-fiction, when entire world was in chaos, the writers gave hope to the world.

He said this while talking to “WiseSindh,” at Hyderabad.

Mr. Kumbhar said that pandemic writings is an important part of European literature, writers witnessed death near them, literature reflected the life full of hardships inching towards death. Europe is still producing scientific research and literature on pandemics that took place centuries ago, and one could read true stories of death and suffering.

He said that two Sindhi novels “Covid-19” and “Youthopia”, which were written during the pandemic, would make an important place in Sindhi literature; both novels have presented the society in a new way, while both contain modern plots. One of them is written on post-modern technique having unique style of narration.

Mr. Hafeez said that people of Sindh very quickly give big titles even to those poets and writers, whose contribution doesn’t match such titles, recently some people called Akash Ansari (a Sindhi poet) an international poet, but he doesn’t think Ansari to be an international poet, as there are many poets whose contribution is greater than him.

He said that NGO culture and lobbying have ruined Sindhi literature, and genuine poets and writers were not given proper space.

Mr. Kumbhar said that recently he was writing a drama series for a private Sindhi channel, while he wrote as many as 20 short stories during quarantine.
