Rules Of Living In Buddhist Monastery
The
place in which Buddhist monks live as community is known as monastery, or mith,
they are also called Samna or Samgha. There are as many as 227 disciplinary
rules to live in Buddhist Monastery. Some those rules are as under:
1 -
Restrain from sexual
relationship.
2 -
Don’t steal.
3 -
No bloodshed.
4 -
Don’t claim fake achievements.
Rules of Samgha-Desisas:
1-
Don’t release male sperm.
2-
Don’t touch a woman.
3-
Don’t talk to a woman rudely.
4-
Don’t flirt or seduce a woman.
5-
Couples in love should stay away from
each other.
6-
House construction should not exceed
2.7/1.6 meters.
7-
Don’t create dispute among monks.
8-
Don’t support any such monk who
tries to create dispute among monks.
Rules of Aniyatas:
1-
Not to be found all with woman in
a distant place where you might have thoughts regarding sexual intercourse with
her.
2-
Not to be found alone with a woman in an isolated place that can arise
suspicions about conversations on lustful subjects.
Rules of Nissaggiyas:
1-
Not to keep
an extra robe more than ten days at a time.
2-
Not to keep
the clothing material meant for the tailoring of a robe more than one month at
a time.
3-
Not to have a
robe washed or dyed by a monk who is not a relative.
4-
Not to accept
a robe from a monk who is not a relative.
5-
Not to ask
someone who is not a relative for a robe.
6-
Not to accept
carpets containing silk.
7-
Not to accept
the floor carpets only made of black sheep wool.
8-
Not to accept
a floor carpet that is, for more than half of it, made with black sheep wool
and a quarter in white wool.
9-
Not to
purchase another floor carpet as long as the former is not six years old yet.
10-
Not to accept
money.
11-
Not to use
money.
12-
Not to
exchange things.
13-
Not to keep
an extra bowl more than ten days at a time.
14-
Not to ask
for a new bowl as long as the present one does not have at least five cracks or
has not become unusable.
15-
Not to keep
medicinal foods more than seven days at a time.
