Jamshoro: Sindh University Teachers' Association n its official meeting has resolved to observe black day on Monday 18/3/2019 in all campuses of Sindh University Jamshoro against lack of interest of Vice Chancellor Dr. Fatah Muhammad Burfat in resolving faculty’s genuine matters which were conveyed in the form of charter of demands (COD) by SUTA. Its minutes haven’t been issued even after two months.
Sindh University Teacher’s Association’s meeting held on 15/3/2019 in teachers presided by Dr. Nek Muhammad Sheikh. Meeting was attended by majority of elected executive council members including office bearers. SUTA EC unanimously has resolved to write an open letter to Chief Minster, which will be shared wiyh media, on Monday to apprise CM ( Chancellor ) about rampant corruption, mismanagement, and mishandling of University’s affairs and incompetency of Vice Chancellor to run the University of Sindh as per code.
SUTA EC condemned the negligent attitude of VC towards encroachers, which embolden them to stop work on SMBBUSHS housing scheme’s boundary wall. Faculty members got plots after thirty years of continuous struggle. Therefore, they wont let anyone to compromise or please and co-opt with local influentials at the cost of their plots. SUTA further said that despite full support of all stakeholders Dr. Burfat hasn't taken any demonstrated and genuine interest in removal of encroachment from university’s valuable land including housing scheme’s land. SUTA has decided to call meeting of stakeholders to devise a common strategy about it and SUTA also resolved to call general body meeting of all stakeholders to discuss and devise strategies on this matter.
Sindh University’s distance campuses faculty members expressed deep dismal over Vice Chancellors continuous overlooking of distant campuses issues so much so that VC has not held a single meeting with distant campuses faculty members in his entire tenure. Distance campuses decide to launch a protest exclusively on their issues.
On 20th march they will protest in campuses and on 25th march all campuses faculty members will go for protest in main campus. Secretary SUTA, Dr. Arfana Mallah endorsed the the decision to protest of faculty members of distant campuses and assured her full support to them. She further said that two years of time span are enough to understand the administrative affair’s for any inexperienced person but Vice Chancellor is still unable to understand and subsequently address them appropriately.
As a result all campuses are slowly sinking into chaos to the extent where all stakeholders are protesting now and then. it testifies his utter failure to address and resolve matters of students, teachers and officers. SUTA EC also discussed widespread malpractice reported in various sections, especially in admission process. Final admission list was issued in mid February.
Without approval of concerned forums, it was reported that admission was granted to students in main and other campuses. It is important to note that as per university’s annual calendar, mid-terms exams are scheduled from 4th march. if admission continues up to 15th march, then when exams will be conducted and how students will be able to complete course or so called online attendance?
Likewise, many bills are pending due to lack of money in university accounts, advertisement were delayed and budget deficits doubled, which illustrates crumbling of over all system in Sindh University. SUTA office bearer said as elected representatives they will not remain silent spectators, faculty have to shoulder this responsibility to save Sindh University from further deterioration and play their due role.
SUTA EC unanimously decided to launch a systemic protest against all ill-practices of Vice Chancellor Dr. Fatah Muhammad Burfat, who has utterly failed administratively, financially and academically to run University as per code and syndicate decisions.
This has created widespread unrest within and outside campuses. SUTA office bearers also resolved to publish whitepaper on academic, administrative and financial mis-governance of VC Dr. Fatah Muhammad Burfat. SUTA EC categorically has decided to approach all concerned quarters regarding sorry state of affairs in Sindh University as per course outlined in Sindh University Act 2018. The act empowers Chief Minster to take action if any Vice Chancellor failed to run University as per code.
