Sindhi Publishers Lack Professional Attitude: Speakers

Sindhi publishers lacked professional attitude, while there were many unregistered publishing houses that were causing serious problems in publishing business especially in Sindhi language and most of these unregistered publishing houses were in race to just get government tenders, publishing in Sindhi was unable to become an industry, had it been an industry, it would have followed the rules and regulations, claimed renowned Sindhi publishers at Hyderabad.

Roshni Publication in collaboration with Rotatory Club of Jamshoro optimists organized a panel on ‘Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Literature - A Dialogue with Publishers on how to encourage young and new writers', in which Mr. Ali Nawaz Ghangro (CEO Roshni Publication), Noor Mohammad Memon (CEO Sindhica Academy), Shahzad Zahoor Khan (Fiction House), Ms. Zahida Abro (Editor & publisher of Hamsari Magazine) and Ms. Nazeer Naz (CEO Nari Publication) participated as panelists and renowned writer and journalist Mr. Akhtar Hafeez moderated the session.

Ms. Zahida Abro claimed that: "Sindhi publishers lack professional attitude, which is continuously damaging the publishing in Sindhi language, while there are many publishing house that are not even registered but still working in the market without following the terms and conditions, we are unable to become an industry."

Ms. Nazeer Naz said: "My sole purpose since forty years as a publisher has remained to serve the younger generation and provide them quality literature, I never started publication to earn money that is the reason my publications are of low and affordable price. I am optimistic that our younger generation has reading habit and they go out in the market to purchase books, which is a good sign publishing has never disappointed me."

Mr. Ali Nawaz Ghangro said that: "People purchase books that is the reason I am in this business and so far Roshni Publication has published approximately thousand titles. But I won't deny that there are problems as far as Sindhi publishing is concerned. People demand international standards from us but they forget that we have very small market as compared to English, yet we are trying our level best to overcome the issues. We at Roshni Publication do give royalties to authors, which many Sindhi and even Urdu publishing houses don't offer, our agreements are done with mutual consent of authors and publisher."

During the session the illegal raids on different stalls and main office of Maktab-e-Daniyal and banning Mohammed Hanif's novel's Urdu translation was condemned.
