Students Taking Bribe Up To 20,000 Rupees To Allot Hostel Rooms at University Of Sindh
A clash erupted between two student groups over the possession of hostel room at University of Sindh, Jamshoro causing head injuries to three students here on Thursday night at the main campus.
According to details two student groups came face to face and a clash erupted between them causing head injuries to three students, who were shifted to LUMHS, Hospital, Jamshoro.
The reason behind the clash was said to be over the possession of hostel room at G M Hostel at the main campus. One of the three students was in critical condition.
An injured student named Ahmed of Second Year told WiseSindh that they were not given the possession of the hostel room even after they had paid for it, yet the other group was allotting rooms on favoritism by issuing fake challan forms.
It was also known that the university authorities used to give challan forms for allotment of hostel rooms at the main campus to senior students , who distribute the challan forms on favoritism and now they had started taking money as bribe from students so that they could give challan forms.
Previously university administration used to issue and collect challan forms but during the days of Ms. Abida Tahrani the students of seniors batches were authorized to issue challan forms for the allotment of hostel rooms.
It was alleged by the group that the challans were only given to those who had political back-up, some kind of source from university officials and recently the students were asking for bribes starting from 10,000 PKR to 20,000 PKR, even then many of the students were not allotted the rooms though they had given the bribe.
Ahmed claimed that they asked their seniors to give them possession of room at G M, they were denied the possession and the clash erupted.
However, the university officials refused to give their opinion regarding this matter, while the provost of boys' hostel at Sindh University turned off his cell-phone, when WiseSindh tried to contact him regarding this issue.
