Murder Of Dr. Nimarta And Our Society

If we compare the pre-Islamic and post Islamic socio-cultural and political status of women, a gradual increase in their position is noticeable. Islam is the religion of peace and harmony. 

Islam as a religion has provided ample status, security and opportunities not only the Muslim woman but also non-Muslim for establishing themselves as an important part of the society.

Pakistan was established by Islamic ideology but after the separation, political leaders and establishment of Pakistan didn’t play an important role for the development of nation. 

Nowadays, economically whole nation is an indebted of IMF. Pakistan has a strong constitution of 1973. By that law, every citizen without any type of religious discrimination has all rights of basic education, health and security but state of Pakistan failed to provide all basic rights to citizens. 

Implementation of law is a major problem of this society. There is a violation of women rights in Pakistan. Woman is not secure in any place including universities, colleges, schools and all public and private places also. There are high security risks in hostels of colleges and universities for girls.

According to 2018 annual survey of Aurat foundation, “there are 3832 criminal abuse cases have been reported in newspapers during the year of 2018. Of which 55% victims were girls and 45% were boys. Out of this 63% cases were from Punjab, 27% cases from Sindh, 4% cases from KP, 3% cases from Islamabad Capital Territory, 2% cases from Baluchistan, 34 cases from AJK and 6 cases were reported from Gilgit Baltistan (GB)”. This is the real face of our society; we are going to the Dark Ages.

Recently, reported a tragic death case of Dr. Nimarta by electronic and print media. BDS final year student Dr. Nimarta Chandani was found dead in her hostel room of Bibi Asifa Dental College Larkana on 16 September 2019. 

Vice-chancellor of the medical college Anila Atta-u-Rehman said, “The incident appeared to be suicide but the police and the medico-legal report will be able to ascertain the actual cause of death after the postmortem”. Larkana DIG Irfan Ali Baloch has given the incident's inquiry to SSP Masood Ahmed Bangash. 

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Larkana Masood Bangash, two students Mehran Abro and Shan Ali Memon were taken into custody. Both students remained in close contact with deceased girl.

If we look at the Initial post-mortem report of Dr. Nimarta Chandani, it indicates that there are marks on her neck but the cause of her death can be given after a complete and final report. 

Nimarta's brother Dr Vishal, a medical consultant in Dow Medical College in Karachi, told the media that my sister was a very intelligent girl, she topped in her college. She distributed sweets in her department at 12:30 pm and came back to hostel for lunch, while her room mates were not with her, at 2:00 pm she was found dead, as informed by other students she even tried to save herself and ran towards the door but she couldn’t survive. 

As a doctor he observed the dead body, marks around her neck suggested that she had not committed suicide. He had further claimed that the marks on her neck looked like those made by cable wires, while the wounds on her arms suggested that someone was holding her down.

Hindu community along with the civil society, students of all universities and colleges of Sindh also protested for the fair investigation of mysterious murder of Dr. Nimarta. Continuously people of Sindh without any discrimination of cost, color, religion, and sect are doing protest for the fair investigation of murder of Dr. Nimarta.

If we look at the near past, there was a similar incident occurred in 2017. Final year student of Sindhi department of University of Sindh Naila Rind was found dead from her hostel room on 1 January 2017. 

Her body was found hanging from the ceiling fan. As like the case of Dr. Nimarta Chandani, administration of Sindh University declared the tragic death of Naila Rind as suicide case.

Pakistan is the country of crisis, the ratio of human rights violation is high. It is the duty of government to provide the protection and justice to every citizen of country without any type of gender and religious discrimination.
