Sindhi Writers And Intellectuals Have Urged Folklorist Aajiz Rehmatullah Not Destroy Valuable Manuscripts



Sindhi Adabi Sangat (SAS), Larkana, Kotri and Sindh University chapters have announced their solidarity with renowned Sindhi folklorist and poet Aajiz Rehmatullah Lashari, who few days back drown all his books and valuable manuscripts in Indus River as a protest against negligence of Sindh's culture department for Sindhi folk literature and has now announced to destroy all the awards and medals in same manner.



In this regards the poets, writers and intellectuals of Sindh including Dr. Mubaruk Lashari, Aziz Qasmani, Ali Akash, Kaleem Butt, Zahid Dharejo, Mehboob Sindhi, Umar Tewnoo, Mohammad Ayub Junejo, Hosh Khoso, Zafar Ali Lashari and others have showed their solidarity with the folk poet Aajiz Rehmatullah and urged him not to destroy any valuable manuscripts or folk poetry, while they have also decided to meet the protesting folk poet and to urge him upon Shah-jo-Risalo, the magnum opus of the Sindhi literature.



Few days back Mr. Lashari had announced to destroy more valuable manuscripts as well as his awards and shields by throwing them in the Indus River, as he had done before destroying more than 200 hundred valuable books and manuscripts in a protest against the Sindh culture department for ignoring the folk literature of Sindh.

In a unique protest Aajiz Lashari presented a Charter of Demand in which he claimed that:

(i) There should be proper representation of folk artists in Sindh Endowment Fund,

(ii) Proper remunerations and royalty should be given to folk artists.

(iii) Culture Department should take responsibility to publish works of folklorists and folk poets, and 

(iv) Culture Department should take care of poor and needy folk artists.
