Senator Rubina Khalid Charged Of Corruption In Lok Virsa


An Accountability Court of Islamabad has charged Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Rubina Khalid in corruption case of Lok Virsa here on Friday. Four people including Senator Rubina were  former Lok Virsa executive director Mazharul Islam, Cosmos Production CEO Tabinda Zafar and Muhammad Shafi, were also indicted. All four of them denied the charges.

The other three suspects were accused of illegally awarding  contract to Senator Rubina's company, causing a Rs30.3 million loss to the national exchequer. Senator  was the chief executive of Cosmos Production at the time. The bureau has also alleged that they embezzled Lok Virsa funds. NAB has been ordered to call its first witness in the case at the next hearing on September 4.

The reference against them was filed on July 1, 2019. Investigation officer Afshan Basharat filed the reference before an accountability court judge in Islamabad.

The reference was also filed against Mazhur-u-Islam the former executive director of Lok Virsa, Islamabad and Dr Tabinda Zafar, who is the current chief executive director of Cosmos Production Prvt Ltd in Self Generated (SGF) of Lok Virsa.

According to the bureau, the evidence that was collected during the investigation had established that the accused had committed the "offence of corruption and corrupt practices as defined under Section 9 (a), (VI) and (XII) punishable u/s 10 of [National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999."

                                   Senator Rubina Khalid:


Rubina Khalid is a Pakistani politician who has been a Member of the Senate of Pakistan, since March 2012. She is currently the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Information Technology & Telecommunications.

She has done Bachelor of Laws from Khyber Law College, Peshawar. She was elected to the Senate of Pakistan as a candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2012 Pakistani Senate election.

 She was re-elected to the Senate as a candidate of PPP on reserved seat for women from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2018 Pakistani Senate election.
