Hafeez Kumbhar: Who Brought New Trends In Sindhi Short Story

When it comes to wit and satire there is no match of Hafeez kumbhar in Sindhi literature, his punchlines could make you laugh for hours, he delivers witty punchlines with an ease and it seems the guy is meant to be a satirical writer, his words have power to capture your heart and mind.

He is not only known for his satirical writings but he also introduced new trends in Sindhi prose fiction, especially writing science fiction, when majority of Sindhi story writers were engaged in writing romantic rural based stories, Hafeez kumbhar brought in new topics in his fiction. He also had great ability as an orator and used to tell his friends that he was Jalal Chandio of stage.


Mr. Hafeez was born on 27th July 1964, and is second son of Mr. Mohammad Illyas Kumbhar, a primary teacher, he was born at talkua Kot Ghulam Muhammad. After early education he took admission in University of Sindh and his major was English Literature, here he thoroughly studied national and international literature, world history and philosophy, he was also a political activist and is inspired by left oriented political ideology.

Mr. Kumbhar started writing for Hilal-e-Pakistan Mag, Quarterly Mehran, Monthly Paroor, Sindhi Adab and other journals and periodicals. While he also wrote dramas for Pakistan Television (PTV), his famous dramas include "Moor Udana Moor", "Hathain Gul Mehndi" "Badnaseeb Thari" and others. In 2003, when first Sindhi satellite channel KTN was made onair Mr. Hafeez was part of its team as satire and script writer, he also worked with Sindh TV Network for some time.

Mr. Kumbhar was also associated with various Sindhi dailies including: Daily Kawish Hyd, Daily Tameer-e-Sindh, Daily Alkh, Daily Ibrat and Daily Sindhu. From 1988 he is teaching English literature at Muslim Science College, Hyderabad and is Assistant Professor. He lives in Hyderabad, short-story writer and blogger Akhtar Hafeez is his elder son.

Mr. Kumbhar also enjoys traveling and is interested to learn about different cultures prevailing in the world.
