Why Urdu Writers Get Shocked After Reading Sindhi Literature
From some time now I have been reading reviews of Urdu writers regarding Sindhi literature, that includes both prose and poetry as some of good Sindhi fiction has been translated into Urdu language recently, while reading these reviews by our Urdu writers, I have come across with one sentence constantly that "I am really amazed such fiction is being created in Sindhi language!"
My dear Urdu writers why do you get amazed and shocked? This very sentence shows superiority complex of our Urdu writers, there might be good-hearted-ness in this sentence, however, it implies that Sindhis have got nothing, Sindhis are ignorant and illiterate. This sentence also implies that these Urdu writers subconsciously consider every Sindhi as a bandit, and that is why they are shocked that such quality literature is produced in Sindhi language.
My Dear Urdu writers! there is no need to be amazed upon Sindhi literature, Sindhis have been aware of international literature and its movements, the Sindhi writers have grasp over international literature, there are many highly reputed Sindhi fiction writers like Ali Baba, Abdul Qadir Junejo, Mushtaq Shoro, Shoukat Shoro, Manik, Naseem Kharl, Amar Jaleel and many more, who are well-versed with literature and what is being published around the world. And by the way Sindhi literature has not developed over-nightly like mushroom, it has very deep roots that could be traced back in Soomra dynasty.
My dear Urdu writers! What is the point of amazement in that? after reading such sentence I am compelled to think that you consider us as backward people whole live in caves and roam naked, we Sindhis too are living in this modern age, then why are you shocked to read our literature?
In my humble opinion, o dear Urdu writers! You should be more worried about Urdu literature rather than on Sindhi, if one puts aside Qurat-ul-Aeen Hyder, Manto and Faiz, what else remains in Urdu literature, other then Naseem Hijazi, Umeera Ahmed and Nimra Ahmed, which is filled up with extremism.
However, there are many institutions to promote Urdu literature, even it has got backing of the state. On the other hand there is only one institution to promote Sindhi literature, and that too is operated as a Sufi shrine. Despite of all that Sindhi writers keep on contributing quality fiction. So please don't get shocked or amazed by reading Sindhi literature, that has just started to translated into Urdu.
