Why Accountability only for Opposition? Sherry Rehman questions in Senate
PPP Senator Sherry Rehman has rejected the selective accountability and political victimization of politicians, especially those sitting on opposition benches. While speaking on the floor of Senate here on Monday she said that:
"A big question mark arise that the findings of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report are shown on the slides on the projector in the courtroom, which has never happened before. They trying to make PPP leadership including Asif Zardari controversial and there is continuous media in progress."
She also claimed that even PML-N leadership was standing at another place to hear the verdict against them, while the ministers have claimed to hear a historic verdict they have made it controversial.
Sherry Rehman further claimed that: "Shahid Akbar again and again meets with JIT witnesses at FIA office, and after that he doesn't give any clarification in the house, upon such conduct we ask the question what kind of JITs are these? If you want to do accountability, you do it and we are present here, we have been continuously answerable towards democracy, media and in front of people, but justice is not been done in the right way."
She also raised the question: "Is this the state of Madina about which we were told, a state where Shaheed Bhutto, Shaheed BB, while Asif Zardari after spending 12 years in jail without any case being proved, have not got justice?"
Ms. Rehman also claimed that those who violated the constitution of the country have been living a peaceful life out of the country and no one dared to bring them for accountability.
She also claimed that: "Government is completing almost 4 months in power. They still have not taken any real decisions as they contemplate a 'To Do or Not To Do' strategy, which will ultimately decide whether the Pakistan of tomorrow will become a place 'To be or Not To Be'."
