Trying hard to get Child Marriage Restraint Bill passed, only Sindh has so far passed similar bill: Sherry Rehman

PPP Senator sherry Rehman sharing her thoughts in a seminar organized by SDPI earlier this week has claimed that:

"“Humanity must take stock of how best it can build a manifesto of change in times of a retreat from inclusion. The politics of exclusion are the enemy of the good.We must not lose sight of civilization dreams based on leveraging  strengths through connectivity and Knowledge links."

More over she said that:

" We are trying hard to get Child Marriage Restraint Bill passed in the Senate. Only Sindh so far has passed a similar law making the age of consent and childhood up to 18 years of age .Every 20 minutes a woman dies of pregnancy complications in Pakistan because 1/3 women are married underage. Let us support a law that stops this."

Senator further elaborated that:

"Education, particularly that of girls, should be on the government’s top agenda. As the campaign for girls education strengthens globally, we must ensure that our girls are afforded the same right and access to opportunities."

Ms. Sherry also confined that:

"Reporting status of 6 Ratified Human Rights Conventions as on 29/10/2018. Implementing them on the ground as a meaningful reality for the vulnerable remains a challenge. The point is, is any Govt in Pakistan designed to be up to the task."
