He was of the opinion that Manto was very well directed by renowned actress/director Nandita Das claiming each scene was perfectly shot. Kashyap took on to micro blogging site twitter and wrote that:

"Finally saw “Manto” .. what an extraordinary achievement directorially.. and unbelievable performances .. loved the way each shot was composed the actors faces and the way it was lit. Cant believe this film was achieved in that low a cost.. Incredibly written put together.. i had goosebumps watching it .. it is now available to see on Netflix #Manto ."

Anurag couldn't help to praise acting of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is also known as 'Kashyap's laadla actor' (beloved actor) in the industry. Praising Nawaz's acting he wrote that:

"Nowazuddin’s performance as Manto is easily his best, and that makes me jealous . And what an ingenious casting of Gurudas Mann. Also all actors , Rasika , Rajshri , Tillotama , Taher everyone. Across the board . #Manto."

Both the actor and director Kashyap have great chemistry and have worked together on many projects including Gangs of Wassypur, Scared Games, Raman Raghav 2.0, Dev D, and other projects. In fact it is believed that Kashyap trusts Siddiqui the most when it comes to acting.

Meanwhile Nawazuddin has been awarded the Asia Pacific Best Actor's Award 2018, for his mind-blowing performance in Das' Manto. Manto is second project of Siddiqui with director Nandita Das, prior to this he was also featured in Das' Firaaq, a movie based on Gujrat roits. Manto is a period film based on last years of Urdu's most acclaimed short-story writer Sadaat Hassan Manto.

Though the film didn't received good reviews from the critics and was unable to do good business on box office, still it has been praised in some circles. Though the Indian version of Manto was banned in Pakistan. But Pakistani director/actor Sarmad Khosat also made a biopic named Manto, which dealt with the writer's life in Pakistan after partition.
