Five interesting facts about Sindhi publishers

Book publishing has remained an important part of civilized world now for at least three centuries, and in most countries of the world book publishing has become an industry, hundreds and thousands of books are published regularly worldwide in different languages. Writing might be a paying job in many countries; and you might fight professional writers all around the world, but that is not the case with Sindhi writers.

Sindhi is a language of more than 5 crore human beings living in Pakistan's province and by few million people living in some parts of India. Approximately three hundred books are published in Sindhi language per year; however following are the five things that Sindhi publishers consider unnecessary and they damn care about these things:

1- Sindhi Publishers don't bother about ISBN: International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is a particular numerical identity for a book published, publishers use to purchase ISBNs from an affiliate of the International ISBN Agency. An ISBN is assigned to each edition and variation of a book. However, Sindhi publishers consider ISBN an unnecessary things and most publishers publish books without ISBNs.

2- Author has to purchase at least 200 copies of his/her book: Though authors worldwide are highly paid by publishers for their creative work, some big publishing house pay in advance to their authors. On contrary Sindhi publishers rather paying the authors, they tell the authors if they want their work to be published they have to purchase at least 200 copies of their own book, without this a Sindhi author cannot become a published author.

3- Sindhi Publisher is not answerable to author on reprint of his work or new edition: It is established worldwide that when some author's work is reprinted or it new edition comes into the market, the author gets his due share. But that is not the case if you are a Sindhi author, the publisher won't even bother to inform you that he is going to reprint your work or new edition of your book is ready to come into market.

4- Sindhi Publishers don't waste their time in contracts: It is a common practice worldwide that before publishing someone's work a written agreement takes place between the publisher and the author, all the terms and conditions are decided, but that is not the case with Sindhi publisher and Sindhi author, both publishers and authors are not bound by any contract and float like free spirits.

5- Sindhi Publisher won't tell the author how many copies of his book are sold: Most of the authors around the world know how many copies of their work have been sold, publishers provide lists of their best-sellers. But that is not the case with Sindhi publishers, they never tell authors how many copies of their book have been sold, whether the book is in the market or it is out of print, whether people have liked the work of author or not.

If you are thinking all the above things are fabricated or myths, than I am sorry to say you have never met a Sindhi author. In which case here is your opportunity, meet me a Sindhi author....!
